Why the new Link structure for Reddit and what does it do?

So I enjoy Reddit and use it frequently. On some occasions if I find a snippet that I really like I'll post it on my blog for other people to enjoy as well.

QUESTION: Why is it that now when I link to a story via the page url that I was directed from at reddit is it not the page url? It's something like: http://reddit.com/goto?id=14yyn NOT the actually address.

What's up with this?
